It took 30 years for the computer to get from the size of an apartment block, to the size of a room and finally small enough for people to have in their homes. Battles have been fought between competing operating systems, web browsers and 3D graphics cards which have made computing cheaper and more accessible for the buying public, but was it all in vain?
